Richard Murphy is an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin and a research affiliate with the NBER, CESifo, IZA and the Centre for Economic Performance. His main research focus is the economics of education, and particular interests are in; peer effects; access to higher education; higher education finance; teacher unions and teacher labour markets.

Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli is Distinguished Honorary Professor in the Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow, and an Honorary Fellow in the Centre for Public Policy at the University of Glasgow. He currently serves as President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s National Academy. From 2009 to 2025, he was Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, leading the institution through a period of significant growth and global recognition. Prior to this,
