James Fransham

James Fransham is data correspondent for The Economist Newspaper in London. As well as writing for the newspaper’s Graphic Detail section he is also a regular contributor to the newspaper’s Britain section—he writes a weekly “data dispatch” for its newsletter, Blighty. He has produced original quantitative stories for many of the newspaper’s sections and been shortlisted for several journalistic awards. He joined The Economist as a researcher in 2009 and in 2014 was made the newspaper’s first data correspondent. He spent five years working from the magazine’s New York City bureau between 2012 and 2018. James studied undergraduate economics at the University of Plymouth followed by postgraduate studies at the University of Manchester; before joining The Economist he worked as a property analyst.
