
Ilias holds a PhD in Finance from Loughborough University, an MA in EU Studies from Leiden University, an MSc in Economics and Finance from the University of York and a Degree in Economics from National Capodistrian University of Athens.
Ilias’ research interests lie (until now) in asset pricing, portfolio management, tail risk and bank stability. His preferred methods include Bayesian inference (MCMC, particle filtering) and time series econometrics. He has published in reputable finance journals and holds two best conference paper awards (BAFA 2024, PanoRISK 2018). Ilias has received external research funding from the Financial Conduct Authority (2025, Economic Research Competition tender C2874) and the South African Reserve Bank (2023-present), for which he was a Research Fellow.
