Life in social isolation

The global pandemic of Covid19 has forced many people around the world to suddenly live in social isolation. The consequences of mass-scale social isolation on individuals’ mental health and wellbeing are still unknown. In this project, we study the personal and family consequence of this abrupt change in lifestyle. Through the lens of household and gender economic models, as well as language and discourse analysis, we plan to systematically describe the alterations in the daily life of Italian and British citizens. Interviewing both children and adults, we focus on understanding how the daily routine has been modified; what process has lead to the current division of labor within the household; the repercussions on personal wellbeing, family tension, beliefs and aspirations, and cooperation within and outside of the household. With our results, we plan to shed light on the pervasive consequences of this unprecedented policy change that suddenly modified the daily lives of millions of people around the world.
